| Why I got into
Mountain Biking: |
Since I was old enough to remember, I have been
subconciously drawn to bicycles in a way I cannot explain or even
comprehend. The two wheels spinning with shiny spokes, the cranks
forcing torque into the well-lubed drivetrain, the feel of acceleration,
and the otherworldly centrifugal forces keeping the cycle upright just
send a surge through me. It's very sexual. |
| Where I met Team
Smack: |
Though I'd been riding the Anthills for two years
previously, my first run-in with Team Smack was a mud-covered chocolate
chip Cookie pleading with us not to ride on the trail because it was too
wet. He was very pathetic. The next day I was at Westside Schwinn
talking to Danny when I met Mad Eddie (his original Smack handle) and
Chrissy. We talked cycling and generally made fun of Cookie. I knew I
had found a home. |
| Why do I race: |
My first race was from Eldridge to the Bowl with guy named
Joe Wanemacher (who got me into cycling). I beat him by about 4 feet. We
were gasping for breath when he lit up a smoke and told me I had what it
takes to be great. What I didn't realize at the time was that he meant a
great Driller. |

None of my races would qualify as great. I can only hope
that next season I can get to be as good as Cookie. Top Ten, baby! Top
Ten! |
